Several barangays in Davao City were recently hit by flash floods brought about by heavy rains, forcing thousands of families to evacuate their homes.
Among these barangays are Tugbok Proper, Mintal, and Catalunan Pequeño, all of which are host communities of AboitizPower subsidiary Hedcor. Recognizing the immediate needs of its host communities during this trying time, Hedcor distributed relief goods to assist affected residents, especially those with partially or totally damaged houses.
When the flood subsided, Hedcor immediately handed out ready-to-eat food packs to affected residents of Brgy. Catalunan Pequeño, which has the most number of evacuees among the company’s host communities.
This was followed by the distribution of relief goods consisting of mats and kitchen utensils in barangays Catalunan Pequeño, Tugbok proper, and Mintal. Hedcor’s assistance reached over 120 families.
Hedcor, together with other Aboitiz group business units such as Davao Light and Power Company, Therma South, Inc. and Apo Agua Infrastructura, Inc were one of the first responders in providing assistance to the victims of the flash flood.
Barangays Catalunan Pequeño, Tugbok Proper, and Mintal house four of Hedcor’s oldest hydropower facilities. Hedcor is a run-of-river hydropower arm of AboitizPower which holds a total generating capacity of 277 MW of clean and renewable energy.(PR)
