Over 2000 primary schoolchildren in the towns of Manolo Fortich and Impasug-ong in Bukidnon received school kits from AboitizPower subsidiary, Hedcor on June 18-22, 2018.

Each kit contained pencils, notebooks, writing pads, sharpener, eraser, and crayons.

“Dili na mupalit akong mama og mga notebook nako kay naa nako nadawat karon gikan sa inyo. Naa pa jud ko bagong crayons ug mga lapis,” said Sunshine Yuana a grade one pupil at Guihean Elementary School, after receiving her new school supplies.

Sunshine is a student from one of the ten schools located in the host communities of Hedcor’s 68.8 megawatt Manolo Fortich Hydropower project in Bukidnon.

This year’s school kits beneficiaries are students of Santiago Elementary School, Guilang-guilang Elementary School, Ilignan Elementary School, Impakibel Elementary School, Guihean Elementary School, Sabangan Elementary School, Abyawan Elementary School, Consolacion Elementary School, Upper Guilang-guilang Elementary School, and Lingion Elementary School.

“To give back to your goodness, we will provide them a quality education,” said Rollen B. Sumo-oy, a representative from DepEd Northern Mindanao.

Aside from school supplies, Hedcor recently turned over a school building to Brgy. Mambatangan, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon. Hedcor went out of its way just to provide new and conducive-to-learning classrooms for the kids of Mambatangan Elementary School who were having their classes under a mango tree and old classrooms.

“It took us years to find a partner who would help us provide new classrooms for these children, and thankfully, despite the fact that Brgy. Mambatangan is not an impact area of Hedcor’s project, they still have provided our need for classrooms,” said Clive Quiño, Mayor, Manolo Fortich Bukidnon.

The project included two classrooms which are equipped with armchairs, blackboard, ceiling fans, and comfort rooms.

“Hedcor’s kind of corporate social responsibility is what I hope other companies who will invest in Manolo Fortich would have,” added Mayor Quiño.

Hedcor is the leading run-ofiver developer in the Philippines, advancing business and communities for 40 years. (pr)
