In a bid to help protect marine species and preserve coastal areas within the community, 35 green warriors from AboitizPower and its partners planted 3,000 mangrove propagules in Barangay Tumanan, Bislig City in Surigao del Sur last month.

The activity, which is in line with the celebration of the 10th National Electrification Awareness Month, was done in collaboration with Surigao del Sur I Electric Cooperative (Surseco-I) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources City Environment in Caraga (DENR-13).

Held on Aug. 30, this was the second time AboitizPower and its partners planted mangrove seedlings in the area. The designated mangrove tree planting area in Tumanan was declared by the city government as a sanctuary for fish and other marine species.

The partnership among AboitizPower, Surseco I, and DENR began in 2018, with all three sharing the same goal of contributing to the preservation of the ecosystem through sustainable environmental initiatives.

Last year, AboitizPower and its partners planted 4,000 mangrove propagules in the area.

“Surseco 1, together with AboitizPower, is committed to acting as stewards of the environment by consistently enforcing its advocacy of planting mangroves in the province of Surigao del Sur,” General Manager Joceler Moralda said. (pr)
