National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) regional director Patricio Bernales said investigators were looking forward to getting statements from the 16-year-old victim who is unable to talk yet.

Bernales said the NBI has started a “parallel investigation” into the gun attack, pointing out that the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) has continued to look into the case.

He said the NBI would work to identify suspects and the motive for the shooting.

The pregnant victim had just come from the 22nd branch of the Regional Trial Court in connection with a case for acts of lasciviousness that she filed against her former employer, Maj. Albart Tare.

Tare is a former Tagoloan town police chief. After the shooting, he was relieved as operations chief of the Misamis Oriental police, disarmed and placed under restricted custody.

The victim, who was with her mother and another female companion, was attacked while they were waiting for a public jeepney. A bullet pierced through her neck and exited through her face.
