ILIGAN City––Investigators yesterday said the driver of a public bus that collided with a truck in Bacolod, Lanao del Norte, on Saturday, miscalculated a curve, and then lost control of the vehicle.
The accident left a man dead and at least 23 people, mostly passengers, injured.
The traffic accident occurred at around 7 am on the highway in Esperanza, Bacolod town.
PO3 Harper Rhoed Ates Veradio of the Bacolod police said Rural Transit of Mindanao bus driver identified as Jesse Canate, 38, of Kapatagan, Lanao Norte, was negotiating a descending road curve when he lost control of the vehicle.
Veradio said Canete was driving the bus from Iligan City and was bound to Mukas, Kolambogan, Lanao Norte, when he miscalculated, and traversed the opposite lane.
The bus collided with an oncoming truck driven by Crisanto Hortelano, 52, of Molave, Zamboanga del Sur, who was accompanied by Cornello Panoy, 64.
Hortellano died as a result.
The ill-fated green truck, loaded with rice, was registered under Luteekiong Marketing Corp. of Molave, Zamboanga del Sur.
