The victim, identified as 34-year-old widow Loren Pabalate of Purok 7, Puerto, succumbed to six gunshot wounds. She died on the spot, according to Chief Insp. Evan Viñas, Puerto police chief.

Viñas said investigators have considered a Misamis Oriental prison guard as a “person of interest” after Pabalate’s relatives informed the police that he and the victim were estranged lovers who once lived in one house together.

“Sige daw sila away adtong biktima busa nag bulag sila. Mao na nga atong tan awon unsa iyang kahalambitan sa maong maong hitabo,” Viñas said.

Pabalate was still working when a masked man barged into her store and riddled her with bullets at around 9 pm.

The victim was rushed to the Sabal Hospital in Puerto by her neighbors in the hope that doctors could still save her. There, she was declared dead.

Authorities said the gunman, who was described as bulky but of average height, used a caliber .45 pistol.

Police investigator Tawide Galleon said the masked gunman was seen casually walking away from Pabalate’s store.

Crime scene investigators said they found caliber .45 pistol shells at the crime scene, and these would be examined in a crime laboratory.
