Department of Interior and Local Government City Director  Edward Bagwani yesterday told media that he himself has personal knowledge of the matter as he was able to see it as things like these have to be approved by DILG Secretary Eduardo Año. He did not say though as to the particular date in January the mayor’s leave ends.

The said leave of absence, Bagwani added, is “per doctor’s advice.”

Regarding comments on social media that the mayor has been suspended for 90 days, “that is simply not true,” Bagwani said.

He added that they should be the first ones to know since they are the ones in charge of serving such suspension notice.

To recall, in one of the recent speeches of Vera Cruz, he said that the mayor is “stressed” on the matter of Central Materials Recovery Facility (CMRF) at Bonbonon, this city.

Jose Pantoja, City Information Officer had earlier told media in an interview that Regencia was summoned in Manila by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources regarding the issues and concerns of the CMRF at Bonbonon, this city.

This was an offshoot of the visit of the Regional Director of the Environment and Management Bureau in late November on account of concerns of the environment, especially on the CMRF.

He added that steps are being made by the city to address the concerns and the DENR central office has already agreed to it.

After that, the mayor could not be seen in public anymore. Vice Mayor Jemar Vera Cruz is now the acting mayor, it was learned.
