MISAMIS  Vice Gov. Jose Mari Pelaez said over the weekend that he has directed all “job order” workers under the provincial board to go to the Commission on Audit (COA) so that their identities could be verified.

Pelaez’s order came in the wake of allegations of “ghost employees” in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan by provincial board member Fredrick Khu, a claim that was thumbed down by majority of the legislative body’s members.

In a statement two weeks ago, the provincial board majority said tedious government processes and stringent requirements prospective workers undergo and submit to make the hiring of “ghost employees” an impossibility.

Pelaez said he was concerned over what he called as “malicious and misplaced allegation” that threatened to tarnish the image of the provincial board.

In a statement, Pelaez said “unscrupulous politicians might exploit the issue to further their personal interests.”

He added: “The allegation was irresponsibly made as it was a mere hearsay, as it is baseless and without any evidence.”

To prove Khu wrong, Pelaez said the provincial board’s “job order” workers have been required to go to the COA in order to validate their identities with their documents such as birth certificates, acceptable IDs, among others.

Pelaez said, “These false accusations will not dishearten the majority members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan. We will not allow false claims which are obviously political machinations to taint our integrity… as an institution.” (press release)
