REP. Rufus Rodriguez of the city’s 2nd District yesterday fired his opening salvo against Mayor Oscar Moreno and Rep. Rolando Uy of the 1st District, and criticized them for putting their faith on feng shui, rules in Chinese superstition that are believed to govern the flow of energy.

Rodriguez said this two days after Uy, Moreno, ex-councilor Edgar Cabanlas, and Uy’s son Rainer Joaquin filed their certificates of candidacy ahead of other Liberal Party candidates in the city. The younger Uy is Moreno’s running mate while Cabanlas is the LP candidate for congressman in the 2nd District.

The top four LP candidates here filed their certificates Oct. 13 supposedly based on the suggestion of Rep. Uy’s wife Lorna, a feng shui practitioner who believes that four would bring positive energy, and that “13” is actually a four if the single digits are added up.

“Dili man ni feng shui––feng shui lang. Kinahanglan kani lakwon, kauban ang tanan, ang padag-on ani sa feng shui sila ra pud mayor, vice mayor ug congressmen,” said Rodriguez, laughing.

He said the Centrist Democratic Party’s candidates are united unlike Moreno and Uy who filed their certificates of candidacy without their bets for the city council all because of their belief in feng shui.

Rodriguez said the CDP candidates have left their fate on the will and power of the God, and not on feng shui.

“That is why nga before kita nag-file sa atong COC, misimba una kita kay atong gipangayo sa kahitas-an nga iyang buligan ang atong kandidatora,” he said.

In the CDP, he said, “walang iwanan, kauban tanan.”

He added: “Sila ra ang nag-una-una sa   pag-file sa ilang COC tungod sa feng shui. Ang ilang mga kaubang kagawad wala. Unsa na man lang ang ilang mga kauban?”

Rodriguez said the reason why councilors Roger Abaday, Teodulfo Lao Jr. and Enrico Salcedo, and former city administrator severed their ties with the Moreno administration was “gibiyaan na nya daan tungod sa feng shui.”

Rodriguez also criticized the two Uys, Moreno, and Cabanlas for filing their certificates of candidacy to a representative with a power of attorney.

“Dili man in ana nag pagpadagan sa Cagayan de Oro nga magapadala ka lang ug proxy,” he said.

The COCs of the four LP candidates were filed on their behalf by Sheila Lumbatan, Rep. Uy’s chief-of-staff.

Moreno and Uy are scheduled to lead their candidates for the city council in filing their certificates of candidacy today. (nitz arancon and shiela mae butlig)
