DOY Ramiro, a dedicated deputized traffic enforcer who is the current helmsman of the volunteer group CRCD, invited me to a tete-a-tete on Monday. We had a few rounds of SMB in his and Sisette’s Toppilog beside that old mall along Corrales Extension. Of course, aside from SMB, I was able to savor the delicious concoctions that Sisette prepared.

We talked about a lot of things, one of which is why I should resume writing a column after quite a long lull.  Doy and I became acquainted with each other not so long ago. And this I can say – it is not difficult to spot a really sincere person, and I found it in Doy and Sisette.

The Roads and Traffic Administration has embarked on several new programs that are aimed at making the roads hapsay. Very recently, the new Multicab units that the DPWH has lent the RTA have become an effective tool in enforcing traffic rules at large.

The roving units have dramatically enhanced the mobility of traffic enforcers. Four mobile teams are now going around the city and the highways to spot traffic violators, especially in areas where motorists least expect traffic enforcers to be around. Since the roving teams’ start of operation in July up to mid-August 2015, the roving teams have apprehended a total of fifty-two motorists for various violations in areas where those apprehended least expected traffic enforcers on the watch.

Most of the apprehensions took place in the highways, and the violations were mostly driving without license, illegal terminal, failure to wear safety helmet, illegal parking, and entering prohibited areas.

The essence of these roving teams is to send a strong message to the road users that even as there is no traffic enforcer in sight, apprehensions could still be effected by the RTA. This is what we earlier mentioned as the Roving Enforcers. So, it is best to obey traffic rules before it may be too late.
