AS it stands now, the House bill of Quezon City Rep. Alfred Vargas and Senate bill of Sen. Grace Poe that aim to do away with homework for kinder and elementary pupils, will not be supported here.

Both bills propose to ban assignments or homeworks for pupils given on weekends. Both Vargas and Poe want the pupils to have quality bonding time with their parents during weekends. The bills, both authors claim, will promote “physical, moral, spiritual, intellectual, and social well-being of elementary pupils.

Cagayan de Oro’s 2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez also said he would not support the bill of Vargas.

Rodriguez vowed that he will make sure that the bill will be “dead on arrival” at the committee of education of the Lower House.

Supak kita niini tungod sa katarongan, nga ang atong mga kabata-an kinahanglan, ma-bansay sila sa pagbasa, paghimog nga bulohaton nga maghatud kanila sa maayong ugma sa ilang kinabuhi,” Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez said he also does not support Sorsogon Rep. Evelina Escudero’s bill, HB 3611.

Under Escudero’s bill, all textbooks of kinder and elementary pupils should be left in the classrooms so that the pupils will not be burdened of lugging around their textbooks every day.

Dili puwede na. Kinahanglan ang atong mga kabata-an, magbasa ug libro,  silbing ilang advance study sa ilang sunod nga klase,” Rodriguez said.

Misamis Oriental Boardmember Gerardo Sabal, who heads the committee on education in the province, vehemently shuns HB 3883 and SB 966.

Kon makalosot ang ilang bill, panahon sa weekend, magbagdoy-bagdoy na lamang ang atong mga kabata-an, mao nang supak kita niana,” Sabal said.
