DAVAO CITY- Barangay Gulion in the Island Garden City of Samal hosted the Salomon X Trail 2015 last week.
The event features a 6 kilometer and 24 kilometer hardcore trail running race in Barangay Gulion. Dax Ang of Davao Adventure X said that the trail in Barangay Gulion provides one of the best technical running trails in Mindanao. The race covers water, mountain and land.
Ang said the 24 kilometer hardcore race tasks runners to climb Puting Bato, the highest peak of Samal Island (1,786 feet above sea level) go down and again proceed to climb the mountain.
“It is not just trail running but we also added mountain running.” Ang said. The trail run event is spearheaded by outdoor sporting company Salomon and ROX recreational outdoor exchange store.
About 140 runners have signed up for the race with 100 runners registering to join the 24-kilometer hardcore event.
Ang said trail running is a growing fitness community in Davao, he estimates that there are about 500 trail runners in Davao. Among the trails in the city include hiking trails in Maa-Magtuod, Eden Nature Park and Barangay Communal, though Ang says these are not really technical trails but moderate routes.
The trails will hone the physical skills like reflexes as it does not involve flat running unlike regular running which are done along roads and flat surfaces. pia
