THE Supreme Court (SC) has approved the publication of names of lawyers who fail to comply with the required mandatory continuing legal education (MCLE).

In a notice dated Oct. 8 and made available yesterday, SC Clerk of Court Edgar Aricheta said the court has approved the MCLE Governing Board resolution (06-2019) allowing the publication of the list of non-compliant lawyers, arranged alphabetically in at least two newspapers of general circulation.

“The non-compliant lawyers shall be given 60 days from the date of publication within which to provide proof of compliance, otherwise they shall be considered as delinquent and shall not be permitted to practice law,” Aricheta said.

The court also approved the exemption from the MCLE requirement of all incumbent and retired judges and justices, based on the list/records to be submitted by the Office of the Court Administrator.

The exempted lawyers would no longer be required to file attestations of exemption.

Under the SC’s MCLE rules, lawyers are required to undergo 36 hours of mandatory legal education from accredited providers. (PNA)
