DAGUPAN City – Mayor Belen Fernandez thanked the Security Bank Foundation for donating a two-storey school building comprising of eight classrooms worth PHP9.8 million at the Dagupan City National High School (DCNHS) that it needs for the implementation of the K to 12 in the city.

During the groundbreaking rites Saturday, the mayor said that Dagupan is among the 36 cities chosen by Security Bank as recipients of school buildings under its “Build a School, Build a Nation” project.

The groundbreaking event was also attended by top officials of Security Bank and the Department of Education (DepEd).

The project is part of Security Bank’s corporate social responsibility to give back to the people in areas where it is operating.

Mayor Fernandez said the city government is building another nine classrooms for DCNHS while Pangasinan Fourth District Rep. Gina de Venecia committed another 24 classrooms.

She also said that the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) has committed additional classrooms and has already sent its technical men to coordinate with the city government for the project.

Designated by the League of Cities of the Philippines as focal person nationwide for the senior high school program under the K to 12, the mayor said Dagupan needs at least 139 additional classrooms for the senior high school program set to start next year.

Fernandez said she is relying on the commitment of Education Secretary Armin Luistro that the remaining classroom needs of the city for incoming senior high school students will be shouldered by DepEd. (PNA)
