PEOPLE have selective amnesia. They tend to forget easily. Haven’t you noticed? You put your pen on the table, and the next second, you can’t remember anymore where it is.

Well, I may not remember where that pen is, but I do remember a lot more. And then, I wait and see. Hmmm. But I also forget to wait and see, so that when something happens, it becomes a eureka moment: Aha! Someone up there is not sleeping after all!

My maternal grandmother was the kind that remembered everything. Then, she would tell Mama: Ikaw na ang mag-wait and see. But Mama was also like me, also forgot a lot of things, until of course that eureka moment arrives, and she would tell me, Net, your Lola told me this, and look what’s happening.

The world is round. That’s why it’s not nice to be not nice. Well, I’m not nice. I’ve never been nice. I don’t inject sugar into words, I don’t sugarcoat anything, the only time I love sugar is when it’s in cakes, pastries, muffins, pies, fruit juice, coffee, iced tea, hot choco, and that little thing called… No, not love. Royce Nama Chocolate! Yum!

Besides, sugar is supposed to be bad for the health–once you start to sugarcoat things, you’ll be as fake as sweeteners. You know, like fake people who are so sweet when you’re around, but once you’re not… And you cringe the next time you meet them. Brrrrr. Beware of the wolf in sheep’s clothing. Cute kuno, sweet sixteen kuno, sugar and spice and everything nice kuno. Pero, Dios ko day!

There’s that one person who seems to have adopted the role of destroying you. We should probably give that person an award–an empty plaque with nothing on it, or how about this: Plaque of Depreciation for Doing Nothing.

Gosh. Wala nang magawa sa buhay. But let’s play psychoanalyst for that person, try to understand where he’s coming from. Na-trauma siguro once upon a time, didn’t seek professional help to cure his trauma, so he now gains pleasure by convincing people to transfer to his side. What a loser.

And here you are, the winner? Hmmm. There’s no contest.

People are free to choose who and what to believe in. Don’t waste time trying to convince them, because in the first place, they should have been convinced right from the start. Friends don’t need to be convinced of you and your life and what you stand for. They’re simply there for you. That’s it.

To people who have chosen the other, your role now in their life is to walk away. Don’t confuse them anymore with your presence, so they can focus on the other side. Let it be. So be it. Goodbye.

Now that the electoral campaign is so over, and the winners are ready to occupy the seats reserved for them, you have to wonder if they also had to go through the process of walking away from people. Or are they not allowed to ever walk away, so they can have the support of everyone when campaign season is on again.

Politics is not, hmmm, natural? Not normal? It’s all about diplomacy? And kissing asses? Let’s hear it from the politicians themselves, for what do we, ordinary mortals, know about politics, anyway? Or do they need to practice selective amnesia all the time so they remember only the good things as they conveniently forget the bad. Oh, well.
