The military sources said more or less 30 armed NPA rebels belonging to the SMRC Front-51 were seen in the mountain ranges of Barangay Goma that resulted to a 20-minute encounter.

Reports said bloodstains were seen at the escape route of the fleeing NPA rebels but no confirmed casualties on either side.

Elements of the 73rd Infantry Battalion and the 39th Infantry Battalion of the 1002nd Infantry Brigade are still in the process of clearing the area while pursuing the rebel group.

The military also denied reports that the choppers hovering near the poblacion were utilized in pursuing the rebels.

“It just passed by the airspace of Digos en route to another destination,” Lt. Col. Ronnie Santos Babac, of the Eastern Command, said in his Facebook page.
