Son shots own father in Surigao del Sur

BUTUAN CITY — A 27-year old farmer in Barangay Banahaw, Lianga, Surigao del Sur tried to kill his own 57-year old father by shooting him using a .38 caliber pistol to the chest on Sunday, Lianga Municipal Police office reported to Police Regional Office 13 here said.

Authorities identified the suspect as Emelito B. Pancit, farmer, while the victim  as Emilio E. Pancit. Both residents of Barangay Banahaw, Lianga, Surigao del Sur.

Police investigators said the suspect and victim were having a heated argument when Emilio, the father sensing his son no longer respect him. Irked, he chased his son with a scythe.

The suspect drew out his hidden firearm and shot his father.

Victim who was still alive was rushed by responding relatives and neighbors to Lianga District Hospital for treatment. However, the medical condition could not be ascertained as of this writing.

Lianga town is about 127 kilometers away from this city.

Responding policemen were able to arrest the suspect and in the follow-up operations recovered the weapon used.

The suspect is now detained at Lianga, Surigao del Sur Municipal Police detention after appropriate criminal charges were filed yesterday before Prose-cutor’s Office, police sources said.
