THE Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) has emphasized the importance of the farm mechanization program stressing it must be compulsory during the 2017 Provincial Capitol budget in coordination with the regional office of the Department of Agriculture (DA) on Tuesday.

This after, Provincial Board (PB) member Gerardo Sabal, III who is a member of the Committee on Agriculture claimed that DA regional office – 10 said under the proposed 2017 budget of the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO) worth P22 million for the entire province they should also allocate more funds to purchase new tractors for farming activities in the province.

“The Provincial Agriculture Office must prepare P380 thousand equity per unit of newly-acquired and project given tractors for farmer used,” he said.

Adding that for the past 3 years Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano’s administration, the Department of Agrarian Reform – 10 has already given at least three farm tractors for PAO farm operations and training programs.

Earlier this year DAR has turned over P6.5 million worth of projects to a group of farmers in the province amongs those given to the Lapad Agrarian Reform Farmers’ Cooperative in Lapad, Laguindingan, Misamis Orienta were corn and coffee processing facility, a warehouse with solar dryer and 1 heavy farm tractor

Sabal said under the program of the present administration, the use of farm tractors by farmer’s associations in its operation would become free except for the fuel.

“Sa una nga panahon, sila mga farmers will pay for the tractors rental but this time farmers association would only prepare for the fuel of the borrowed or requested tractors by each municipalities,” he stressed.

He said the request for the usage of farm tractors were done in accordance for the need of the farmers from the municipalities of Opol, El Salvador, Alubijid, Claveria, Jasaan, Manticao, Libertad and Alubijid which were considered as agricultural activities that they are offering locally.

Also deliberated during the budget proposal for the agriculture is the usage of cacao plants and coffee that would become inter-completed projects of the coconut industry in the province.
