SP to review Phividec charter

Members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan in Misamis Oriental will be forced to review the mandate and charter of the Phividec Industrial Authority should it continue to snub their call for an explanation on the entry of the 51 container vans full of garbage from South Korea.

Committee on Environmental Protection, Ecology and Natural Resources vice-chairman and Provincial Board member Gerardo Sabal said they would review the existence of Phividec in the municipalities of Villanueva and Tagoloan.

“Kung pakyas gihapon sila nga motunga then mapugos kami sa pageview sa ilang existence dinhi sa Misamis Oriental kay dili man sila magpakabana,” he said.

He said all notices has been properly received but the GOCC has not sent information if they will attend the committee meeting next week.

“Mitindog na kita atol sa atong session informing other members that Phividec has been snubbing his call for the emergency committee meeting but still to no avail. Other members of the SP also wanted to raise some inquiry.

The imported garbage arrived this July aboard the vessel MV Affluent Ocean. It was offloaded at the Mindanao International Container Terminal and has since remained at Phividec Industrial Estate in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental

Information from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources reveals that the consignee of the trash shipment, Verde Soko Philippines Industrial Corporation, is not recognized as an authorized importer of recyclable materials.

The DENR’s initial findings also revealed that the shipment contained used dextrose tubes, used diapers, batteries, bulbs, and electronic equipment.

“For the last time, among inbitaron ang mga opisyal sa Phividec aron matubag ang mga pangutana sa mga board members. Dili gani sila motunga karong Lunes, we will pass another resolution condemning their act on snubbing the council invitation,” he added.
