A SPECIAL child died as 11 houses were destroyed by a fire that struck in western Kolambog, Lapasan here yesterday afternoon.

Insp. Arnulfo Nabua II, deputy district fire marshal, identified the victim as 16-year-old Thalia Kaye “Kaikai” Racero.

The victim was reportedly in the house alone while her parents were out. Her father was working nearby.

Witnesses said the fire started at the house of the victim’s grandmother Felipa Racero that was just a spitting distance from the Lapasan highway.

The fire broke at around 3:45 pm, and fire fighters had the situation under control at around 5:45 pm.

The cause of fire is still being determined.

Lapasan barangay councilor Mark Bustamante said the fire displaced the families of the Raceros, Cynde Waminal, Jaime Torres, Josephine Torres, May Villagas, Ingred Paac, Angel Heniro, Pat de Cerna, Antonio de Cerna, Rocito Lagumbay and Wilfredo Arabis.
