A “state of the art” 350-million-euro Cagayan de Oro International Health Hospital, Hotel Geriatric and Shopping Centre will soon rise in a 6.5 hectare lot in Barangay Lumbia, this city.

This was disclosed by city councilor Lourdes Can-dy Darimbang after a joint committee on Health and Trade and Industry chaired by city councilor Dante Pajo and Edna Dahino started to review the proposal.

Darimbang requested for the passage of a resolution interposing no objection to the proposed project offered by Turkish government through a grant in installing the 750-bed capacity hospital in the uptown areas.

“This laudable project will cater and answer our problem in health and employment needs. The hospital operation will also cater a better employment salary rate to medical personnel and will no longer seek employment abroad,” she said.

The project which includes a shopping center, a geriatric center, a transfer hotel a convention center and a hospital that will be constructed on 38,522 square meter area and the closed area will be around 66,150 square meter.

There will be 300 patient beds, 50 dialysis bed, 200 geriatric care beds, 45 intensive care unit beds, 15 beds for cardio ICU units, 35 neonatal ICU unit. In addition, there will 9 operation rooms, 5 cardiovascular surgery rooms, 5 birth rooms, 2 angio laboratory and 1 general laboratory. The number of polyclinic will be 150.

According to the proposed plan, the construction of the hotel is made where patients companion can accommodate and shopping malls will also cater the other needs in the nearby communities and visitors.

The plans aims to establish a large-scale general hospital that would provide almost all types of primary and secondary healthcare services, including value added services such as heart related operations.

Darimbang said it is estimated that the hospital will have the capacities of 550,000 outpatients and 65,000 inpatients annually coming from nearby municipalities, cities and provinces.

“The proposed five star hotel will be giving services both for tourism purposes and patient companions. They will no longer go down to the city proper considering that a mall will also be constructed nearby,” she added.

She said equipments and medicines will be coming from other countries. The Turkish investor has eyed a 50-years hospital operation in Cagayan de Oro and would be turn-over to the city government.

“This is like a build-operate-transfer scheme without any single centavo spent by the city government. The hospital management will also cater 200 indigent patient per month for free,” she maintained.

Councilor Ramon Tabor, chair of the committee on laws and rules congratulated Councilor Daimbang for her effort to bring the big investment to the city.

However, he expressed interest to have a bigger knowledge of the project as  it will have a great impact on the city’s economy and health services.
