BUTUAN City–A fire destroyed 18 houses  and displaced some  45 families in Purok 7, Barangay Port Poyohon, Butuan City Sunday afternoon.

The fire broke out at around 3:30 pm and quickly spread in the community that had house mostly  made out of light materials and built next to each other, said FO3 Rosil Cardente.

Cardente said residents told investigators that the fire started at the house of one Pastor Macasling.

He said investigators were looking into claims that a man, who was renting a place from Macasling, allegedly left what he was cooking unattended.

Social workers estimate that around 160 people from the 45 families were adversely affected by the fire.
