Police Capt. James Daleon, commander of Police Station 3 at Tag-ibo, this city, identified said suspect as Macacna Layatan Maruhom, alias Abdul Jalil, 48.

He is now detained at the Tipanoy city jail this city, with no bail recommended. He was arrested at barangay Lanipao in connection with the slaying of Joel Magaro, Cruz’ former executive assistant. who was gunned down on October 2016 in his house at Barangay Villaverde, this city.

The arrest was on the basis of a warrant issued by Judge Ombra Ali Bacaraman of the Regional Trial Court of Lanao Norte, Branch 4 dated March 17, 2017.

Lanipao, to note, is a hinterland barangay of this city. Daleon said that the suspect was tagged as third most wanted in the city.

It was a composite team consisting of the city intelligence group and the police here, Daleon said it was a product of months of monitoring and surveillance, he added.

The arrest itself was a struggle, he said, as they had to cross two rivers before reaching the place. The suspect was working as a watchman in the area, Daleon added.

A visibly elated former mayor Lawrence Ll. Cruz then said he was glad with this development as Magaro was a good executive assistant. He even settled seven “rido’ cases during his term. Cruz also gave his appreciation of the city leadership citing especially the road clearing operations which this city had done.
