Baungon police head Chief Insp. Christian Relevo said they have yet to identify the rebel as of presstime.

Relevo said soldiers who camped in Barangay Lacolac launched a security patrol in sitio Magantol after receiving information from a concerned citizen that there were rebels in the vicinity.

He said troops were in the Purok 1 when they encountered some 100 rebels believed to be from the Guerrilla Front Committee 68 under the NPA’s northcentral Mindanao command.

He said the ensuing firefight lasted for 40 minutes, after which the rebels scampered towards different directions.

The troops found the body of the fallen rebel and his M16 rifle at the encounter site.

According to Relevo, the dead man wore a T-shirt with the markings “100th October Revolution 1917-2017.”

The military also found in the victim’s pocket a sachet of dried leaves of marijuana and a pack of noodles, lighter and other personal belongings.

The remains of the dead man was brought to the St. Bernard Funeral Parlor in Baungon.
