June Lino Bacus, Regencia’s spokesperson, said the one-month suspension order of the Office of the Ombudsman would end on Oct. 23.

The Ombudsman slapped Regencia with a one-month suspension order in connection with city hall’s agreement with a company without the authority of the city council, said Vice Mayor Jemar Vera Cruz who is now acting mayor.

Regencia did not contest the adminstrative case filed against him.

But the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has yet to receive a copy of the order.

The case pertained to an act which Regencia made during his first term as mayor.

“This case was in relation to parts to be used in the repair of the water system of the city,” Bacus said. The city council then was headed by vice mayor Ruderic Marzo.

Regencia is currenlty detained at the city jail in Tipanoy in connection with the 2014 ambush of the group of then congressman Vicente Belmonte Jr. near the Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental.

The case is being heard at the Regional Trial Court-Branch 77 in Quezon City.

According to Roberto Altres, spokesman of Belmonte, another hearing on the ambush case is scheduled in Quezon City on Oct. 26.

Until now, authorities have yet to succeed in transfering Regencia from the city jail to a prison facility in Metro Manila.
