AUTHORITIES seized over P700 thousand worth of suspected shabu and arrested two suspects during a buy-and-bust operation in Barangay Camaman-an here over the weekend.

City police director Henry Dampal said police and agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) arrested suspects identified as Alvin Genese, 32, a construction worker; and Dick Tangolian, 29, a trisikad driver, of Block 3 Ramonal Village, Barangay Camaman-an, this city.

Col. Dampal called the two lowly workers “high-value targets.”

Dampal said that at around 2:30 pm, Saturday, an undercover cop from Police Station 9 was bought from Genese a sachet of white crystalline granules believed to be shabu in the amount of P500.

During the search, Dampal said, the operatives confiscated two large sachets of shabu and a P500-bill used as marked money.

“Seized from them (Genese and Tangolian) are sachets of shabu weighing about 107.34 grams with an estimated street value of P727,600,” Dampal said.

Police arrested the workers for violation of laws on the sale and possession of illegal drugs.

Dampal said the two suspects have a previous police record — they were arrested in 2016 and 2017, respectively, for the same violations but were freed through plea bargaining in 2019.

He said a warrant of arrest was issued against Genese for violation of Section 5 Article 2 of RA 9165 issued by a regional court on Oct. 14, 2019.

The suspects were detained at Police Station 9, pending the filing of charges. The substances seized from them were also brought to the local crime laboratory for examination. (Ben Balce)
