Letter to the Editor

YOUR newspaper’s report about the Xavier University-Kinaadman survey results which have shown that the utmost concern of Kagay-anon voters is peace and order, particularly the drug menace, started an interesting discussion among us in the PNP about how the survey will make Cagayan de Oro politicians shift gears in the days before the May 2016 elections. All of us agreed that the results of the survey will make the Philippine National Police (PNP) the whipping boy again of politicians who will do anything just to win votes.

Just as we anticipated, the PNP organization became the whipping boy again in less than a week after the result of the XU-Kinaadman survey was made public. Suddenly, the politicians stopped talking about corruption issues that characterized their campaign for months, and that is understandable to us because they realized that they have been using the wrong type of ammunition against their political enemies for months, and that exploiting corruption issues (true or false) will not bring them their desired number of votes the way it will if they capitalized on the drug menace or on peace and order problems in the city.

We cannot deny that peace and order is a problem in Cagayan de Oro City just as it is still a very big problem in other places in the Philippines. It is not like the drug menace is a problem only in Cagayan de Oro because it is like a disease that does not recognize territorial boundaries and jurisdictions when it spreads. Peace and order is a top concern anywhere in the Philippine archipelago. Insofar as we are concerned, we are exerting our best efforts using the limited resources that we have in this war against illegal drugs. Even the PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency), which is not PNP, is focusing all its manpower and logistical resources on this giant endeavour.

Some of our politicians are very unfair to the PNP and to us, policemen. They know our limitations and are fully aware of our problems, and yet they have made us their whipping boys now when they are the ones who should be asking themselves why they failed to strengthen the PNP as an institution by making sure that there will be a bigger budget so we can increase the number of policemen and procure more equipment so that we will become more effective in fighting criminals. What they did instead was waste their time playing politics and thinking of ways to please cop killers and rebels who killed countless policemen and soldiers all through the years only to end up with nothing because their proposed law was pure garbage and cannot win them votes. They were the same ones who killed their own proposal by not having a quorum. What a waste of time, energy, and government resources that should have been used to improve the PNP’s anti-crime campaign!

They hit and hit us but they never asked where they will be without the PNP. Indeed, what will Cagayan de Oro and the Philippines be without policemen?

Now, they changed their topic and they are attack us. For what? It is because the results of the XU-Kinaadman survey tell them that voters in Cagayan de Oro are more interested on peace and order than corruption issues, and therefore, they can win more votes if they make us their whipping boys.

I am requesting that you withhold my name because I might be accused of being a partisan which I am not. However, allow me to express myself by stating that I am very offended by this kind of politics that uses other sectors like my PNP organization in order for them, traditional politicians, to win more votes. I also want these politicians to know that I am also a Kagay-anon voter, and that I will discuss what they have been doing in dragging through the political mud the PNP with members of my family and other relatives in the confines of my own home. As agreed, we are asking other officers and men of the PNP to do the same thing. The politicians should know that what they have done just backfired on them, and that they have lost our votes because of what they did. After this, they will probably try to make amends (politicians as they are) but the damage has already been done. We have taken note of them and what they did. We are many, and they failed to realize that we are also a potent voting force in Cagayan de Oro who do not like to be used in their politics of mudslinging. We, members of the PNP, and our families have the right to vote any politician out of office, too. (name withheld upon request)

Old Paranoia

MILITANTS groups Bayan, LFS, KMP, Anakbayan, Anakpawis, KMU and the CPP-NPA-NDF protest the conduct of Balikatan 2016, demanding the withdrawal of all US troops and junking of VFA/Edca.

The same groups initiated and manipulated the recent Kidapawan violent incident.

Their old paranoia is US imperialism.

If you study Marxism, Leninism, and Mao Tse Tung thought, their basic means to achieve their political ends are class struggle, revolution, dictatorship of the proletariat (i.e., a one-party system under the Communist Party, as in China, North Korea, and the former Soviet Union), and regimentation of the mind and conscience.

There are two kinds of such destructive forces in our political system now:

(1) The violent underground CPP-NPA-NDF; and

(2) Their legal front in the Lower House, i.e., the leftist partylists

Bayan, et. al., which swallow and enjoy their multi-million pork barrels, salaries, perks and junkets in Congress as any other dirty traditional politicians (trapos) do, while secretly sharing portions thereof to their underground counterparts.

As the May 2016 national election approaches, their destabilizing and violent mass actions escalate.

Kidapawan is their latest event.

Freedom-loving, law-abiding and right-thinking Filipinos should not allow themselves to be misled by such violent and undemocratic forces and by the presidential and local candidates who support them, openly or silently.

If we want to continue the progress of our country, let us strengthen the democratic and republican tenets and principles enunciated in our Constitution (and reject the Red Book of Mao Tse Tung, the communist writings of CPP-NPA founder Jose Ma. Sison, and the manipulative press releases of his mercenary spin doctors/propagandists in the media).–Manuel J. Laserna Jr., lcmlaw@gmail.com, mjlasernajr@gmail.com
