THE city board of canvassers proclaimed ex-congressman Rufus Rodriguez as winner in Monday’s congressional election in the city’s 2nd District.
Rodriguez was proclaimed at around 7 pm Thursday, a day after his sister Jocelyn’s proclamation as councilor-elect.
The Rodriguezes and Councilor Lordan Suan are the only candidates of the Padayon Pilipino-Centrist Democratic Party who made it in the city’s elections.
The elder Rodriguez, who won with 81,487 votes, would serve his first office term as congressman of the 2nd District, a position he held for nine years until 2016.
His sister Jocelyn, former barangay chairperson of vote-rich Nazareth, was proclaimed ahead of him. She and the reelected Suan were proclaimed winners in the race for city council seats at around 9:30 pm Wednesday.
Councilor-elect Rodriguez received 60,719 votes and Suan bagged 54,131 votes.
Meanwhile at the capitol, the provincial board of canvassers also proclaimed winning candidates in Monday’s elections in Misamis Oriental’s two districts Thursday evening.
Lawyer Aleli Ramirez, board chairperson said the proclamation was delayed due to the late transmittal of the election results from the different municipalities.
The board proclaimed Rep. Juliette Uy of the 2nd District as winner in the congressional race in the province’s 2nd District at around 5:30 pm Thursday.
The board also proclaimed the son of Rep. Peter Unabia, Christian, as the incoming repressentative of the province’s 1st District.
Reelected Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano was a no-show; his staff said the provincial chief executive was not feeling well. Emano won his third and final term with 248,847 votes against his challenger former vice governor Julio Uy.
Uy’s running mate, provincial board member Jeremy Pelaez, was proclaimed as the winning candidate for vice governor.
Winning candidates for provincial board seats to be proclaimed were Syremae Emano, Nancy Madjos, Gerardo Sabal, Dexter Yasay, Wayne Militante, Erik Khu, Virgilia Dumadag and Vincent Pelaez.
The board of canvassers also proclaimed Jerry Khu and Jessa Mugot as winners in the 2nd District.
