MAGSAYSAY, Misamis Oriental — About 120 hawkbills were released by Taskforce Pawikan at about 5:30 pm on Monday in a protected area of Barangay Kandi-is, Magsaysay town in Misamis Oriental. The release was the third batch.

Town mayor Rey Buhisan, taskforce chair said  the Taskforce Pawikan in  the municipality of Magsay-say has already released a total of 360 hawkbills including in the first batch of 75 and 165 in the second batch in September and August to October, last year.

Buhisan has ordered the released of a third batch of 120 hawkbills  after the hatching which occured at 3am on Monday.

Victor Renato V.  Bucag.Wildlife Enforcement Officer Board of Director and Park Warden of Mt. Balatukan Range Natural Park said Magsaysay has the largest  turtle nesting area in the country.

The released of hawkbolls was witnessed by the Cenro of Gingoog City and the residents in the area.

Buhisan thanked Rolando Pagara, a resident in the area for taking the extra effort to care for the hawkbill turtle eggs nestled by the beach from its nesting in Nov. 11, last year up to the day these were released to the sea.

The mother turtle  which estmated  to weight 70 kg has left after laying  120 eggs in only 15 minutes, Pagara said.

Turtle nesting season includes the months of September, August to October,  and  November to January,  said Cenro Rey Fermandez.
