Tattoo artists clash in Inkalidad VI

A large number of tattoo enthusiasts and aficionados gathered in one spot here in Cagayan de Oro last Novermber 3 to compete in one of the biggest ink competition in Mindanao dubbed as “Inkalidad VI” at Centrio Ayala Mall, Activity center.

The whole day event began at 9AM sharp and began an hour later. The event was open to both non-professionals and Professional artist in the industry. New artists were also welcomed to test their metal against other new comers.

This year’s theme was “Fantasy Characters” ranging from anime series, comic heroes and others.

Inkalidad VI was spearheaded by the following Mick Tumulak of Mick’s Ink Tattoo Studio, Radiant Color, Yoge, Mindanao Association of Tattoo Artist (MATA), and in cooperation with Centrio Ayala Mall and was supported by ths city’s Vice Mayor Joaquin “Kikang” Uy to showcase the vibrant tattoo industry in the city as well as promoting talented artists in the craft.

The competition was divided by 5 categories Pro-colored, Pro Black & Gray Category, Pre-made (Small and large piece) New Artists category and Non-Pro an open category. To make it even more competitive criteria for judging is “Artists Choice” meaning their fellow artists in their respective category were the judges.

Bagging the top prize in the pro colored category was Ibarra Fuertes (Inkalidad VI champion) with his DC Comic art of Superman’s archenemy Braniac; taking 2nd place is JB Camangian with one of the beloved Star Wars character Padmé Amidalal; and Nathan Dapat Guantinas with Marvel Comics devourers of planets “Galactus”.

Meanwhile, in the Pro Black and Gray category Kissel Ricaborda with his Majin-boo a character from the epic anime series Dragon Ball Z, followed by Anster Antonio with “Freddy Krueger” from the film series A Nightmare on Elm Street; and coming in third Jefrey Actub with his Mobile Legends: Bang Bang “Dark Gent” Roger.

Again congratulations to all the winners and to the organizers for a successful event.
