Victor Flores, a weather specialist at the El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental station of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), said the temperature shot up to 33 degrees Celsius in Cagayan de Oro and the province at around 2 pm.

The last time Pagasa recorded this was in March 14 or 13 days after the start of the summer season.

Flores said that while the actual temperature was 33 degrees, the heat index registered at 34.1 degrees, prompting Pagasa to caution people against staying long outdoors from 10 am to 3 pm so they would not get sick

Dr. Joselito Retuya, epediomologist  of the City Health Office, warned that the rising temperatures could cause heat stroke,  skin diseases, and  dehydration.

Retuya also advised the public to avoid street food.

“Basta ting-init, ang mga pagka-on dali mag-molds ug kanang molds, bad bacteria man kana.

He also advised the public against wearing dark-colored clothes.
