The temperature rose to 36.2 degrees Celsius here at 2 pm Thursday.

It was the highest recorded temperature so far in Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental since the start of the new year, and broke all January records since 1981, according to Pagasa weather specialist Victor Flores.

Flores said Thursday’s record showed the temperature higher by 1.2 degrees Celsius compared to 1981’s 35 degrees.

“Ang maximum temperature sa tanang bulan sa January, from 1981 to 2010, mikabat lang sa 35 degrees Celsius, pero niadtong  Thursday, ang maximum temperature nga atong na-record, 36.2 degrees Celsius,”said Flores.

He said the easterly winds have also worsened the effects of the El El Niño phenomenon.
