Egay Uy .

BY now, the voters will have finalized their list of local and national candidates who will merit their sacred votes.  A kodigo will help cast our votes in a jiffy and be a part of ensuring a fast, honest, orderly, peaceful, and clean election.

Good luck to the voters. Remember, we deserve the kind of governance through the officials that we install in various offices.

I wrote on my Facebook wall that relationships were broken not because of political choices or affiliations but because of the way supporters carry themselves.  Supporters who wittingly or unwittingly overdo, oftentimes resorting to personal innuendos, what they want to convey to the other side is often the reason relationships have soured.

Through the kind of language and words they use, some, if not most, supporters seem to have committed themselves to the candidates or elected officials who do not even know or recognize them. They appear to choose their blind patronage over their friends, relatives, siblings and all. That is how divided the nation has become.

I don’t blame anybody because everyone has all the right to do that.  But we must remember that such a right ends where the rights of others begin.  Once we cross the line, the right to “fight for” our idols have to take a back seat. But of course, this may not have crossed everybody’s mind because of blind patronage and distorted appreciation of what has been happening all around us.

People who sow intrigue and propagate fake news may have developed callous consciences that even they tend to believe their own lies and malicious lines. I can’t imagine how somebody who offers himself to serve the city via the highest local post could tolerate or even openly propagate lies and fake news.

The more recent demolition line that made the netizens scour the website of the Sandiganbayan is the supposed suspension order against incumbent mayor Oscar S. Moreno, the leading candidate in the May 13 elections.

What seemed to have stirred the imagination of those who follow the political scene in the city are two April 29, 2019 Sandiganbayan Resolutions that could not immediately be opened. It later turned out that those resolutions were about the denial of omnibus motions filed by one co-accused in the cases. It was not a resolution suspending anybody.

After the contents of these resolutions were clarified, I could only ask, “How can somebody offer himself to lead the city and start with the wrong foot?”

The Kagay-anon is an intelligent voter. He can no longer be deceived by fake news and malicious lies and lines.  It would have been best if all candidates for the highest post in the city simply offered their track record and capabilities to the electorate instead of engaging in black propaganda and mudslinging.
