FORMER Taglimao barangay chairman William Guialani called to ask why the PRRD Coalition R-10 was not there when Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio came to our city. I was at sea on what to say. Personally, I knew she was coming to town. But since the Coalition was never tapped to do something in particular, I thought Sara must be here on invitation by certain groups and politicians.

Guialani claimed he was with the entourage of Sara during the events. From Guialani’s own account, Sara was with the Moreno group in the morning and with the Emanos in the afternoon.

Is Sara now supporting Moreno? Guialani doesn’t think so. For one good reason, Sara was quoted to have said in the presence of Moreno: “Who is going to run for mayor in the city?” Guialani took it as a swipe at Moreno. He thought Sara must have known that Moreno has a string of Ombudsman guilty rulings and some are already with the Sandiganbayan, and in all likelihood, Moreno might not be able to run or might even be imprisoned.

Amid speculations that Alam Lim’s move to join the Moreno camp could be a plus factor for the mayor, Guialani asserted that it couldn’t be so. The family of Alam’s wife is close to the Dutertes, all right. But her brother’s secretary supposedly told Guialani that the brother said he would never interfere with Alam’s political career nor would he allow himself to be used as an instrument for Alam’s political ambitions. Besides, Sara also said she doesn’t know Alam.

Talking about Alam’s in-laws’ closeness to the Dutertes, why were Alam and his wife prevented to go near Sara when the lady mayor of Davao was in Camp Evangelista? According to one story, were it not for Misamis Oriental Gov. Bambi Emano, the couple would have been treated like any civilian that needs to have the permission of the PSG personnel to get near Sara.

The air is abuzz with talks of political alignments. Some would call it “balingbingan” as if the election next year is already a certainty. Many want to be at the front row with Sara’s Hugpong Pagbabago (HP). What is HP anyway? Is that a party for Sara’s candidacy for senator or is it just an aggrupation to support the President’s programs? Nothing is certain yet.

The last barangay election proved me wrong in my belief that there won’t be any. But it proved me right that the winners would still be the same people many believe are corrupt and with that, change is not going to happen. I will continue to believe there won’t be any election next year. If it happens, then it’s going to be the straw that would break the camel’s back. It would be goodbye “change” and goodbye “federalism.”

Do you think the senators and the representatives at the Lower House will allow their millions to disappear into thin air with a federal system of government? Not likely, I would say. Federalism will never sit well with the traditional politicians. Change can only come with federalism, and federalism can only be realized with the declaration of a revolutionary government.

Time is ticking for President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. He is nearing twelve o’clock. After that, it’s going down toward dusk, a time when traditional politicians will view the President as a lame duck, a time when TPs will start to look for a new face, a new winnable presidential timber. Then, we’re back to square one. The evil will rejoice!

Did the Land Transportation Office in Region 10 push through with the campaign against overspeeding with the use of speed guns? I believe the office came up with a briefer and media pronouncements about when it would undertake it. I also believe the date has lapsed. Can we have a report on the results? The public is waiting.
