A Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) official said this yesterday even as schools prepare to open their doors to thousands of students on Monday.

Almer Masillones, chief of the Customers Welfare Division of the DTI in Misamis  Oriental, said they have been conducting weekly monitorings of the prices of school supplies, and noted no increase in prices in the city.

Masillones said the series of fuel-price increases had no effect on the prices of school supplies.

In fact, according to Masillones, the establishments inspected were even selling at prices lower than what the DTI suggested.

The DTI however checked only 10 of the city’s biggest establishments that sell school supplies.

Among the establishments subjected to weekly monitorings were Gaisano, Ororama, Alfe Commercial, Cagayan  Education Supply, SM, National Bookstore, United Bookstore, and Gold Crest.

Masillones said the DTI has been conducting the monitorings since May 13, and would continue until June 30.
