Palao barangay chair Wenifredo Niez said this was in connection with the Solid Waste Management Act. He said Prosecutor Alonto has dismissed the cases against him and 10 others – “provisionally dismissed.”

The case, it was learned, is in connection with the proper disposal of garbage.

Niez said that with regards to the task of having the garbage properly disposed of, “this is a shared responsibility between the barangays and the local government unit.” He added that the local government itself on their part have some lapses and they cannot even follow their own schedules of collecting the garbage from the barangay materials recovery facility even as he added too that the city’s garbage trucks are sadly lacking.

“This matter should not be politicized,” he said hinting that only those that are not with the mayor’s party are targeted for such actions.
