UAP-CDO Chapter debuts Cagayan de Oro Design Week

Architecture & Design de Oro: Cagayan de Oro Design Week 2019 is in collaboration with SPAM and BABBLE, and partnership with Boysen Paints.

Cagayan de Oro Chapter of the United Architects of the Philippines has organized the first annual design event in the city, entitled Architecture & Design de Oro: Cagayan de Oro Design Week, or A&DDO in short. The inaugural event will consist of talks and workshops in several venues across the city from November 13 to 15. Open to professionals, students, and design-enthusiasts, A&DDO aims to celebrate and promote Philippine architecture and design to the public.

There will be two workshops on November 13, and a series of talks on November 14 and 15. Members of SPAM, a group of progressive Filipino designers, will be flying into Cagayan de Oro for this event. A variety of topics concerning contemporary Philippine architecture will be tackled during the talks and workshops – some of these include sustainability, cultural identity, and meaningful design. The talks will be held at SM CDO Downtown Premier, while workshops will be facilitated at the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines.

The two workshops are “Material Systems” by Gerard Joson, and “The Fundamentals of Bamboo Design” by Jumax Morgia. The first day of lectures on November 13 will comprise of “Design Idea & Essence” by Buck Sia; “Discursive Design” by Stanley Ruiz; and “Shaping Identities” by Dan Matutina. The lectures on November 14 will be “Mediation + Resolution” by Sudarshan Khadka; “Authenticity, Altruism, Aspiration, Advancement” by Jason Buensalido; and “The Design of Purpose” by Joseph Javier.

Attendance to these events will earn professional architects the required Continuing Professional Development (CPD) units by the Professional Regulation Commission. Architects can earn up to 12 CPD units through participation.

The event is in partnership with Boysen Paints with special presenting sponsor Green Group, Inc. A&DDO is set to be an annual event to continue educating and inspiring young architects in years to come. This major event is certainly a step forward for the growing architecture and design scene in Cagayan de Oro City.
