BUTUAN City–An engineer has unseated Mayor Ferdinand Amante Jr., and his group has set a record in the city’s election history.

Engr. Ronnie Vicente Lagnada of the National Unity Party (NUP) was proclaimed as the winner in the mayoral race. He garnered 90,081 votes over Mayor Ferdinand Amante Jr. of the Liberal Party (LP) who received 67,492 votes.

Lagnada and his group etched a record in the political history of the city when they won “13-0” against the party of a sitting mayor who ran for his third and last term.

Former congressman Jose Aquino III of the NUP garnered 88,898 votes in the vice mayoral race, beating Councilor Ryan Anthony Culima who received 36,991 votes and Councilor Sergio Pascual who bagged 21,567 votes.

Reelectionist Rep. Lawrence Fortun, a “guest candidate” of the NUP, defeated his challenger, former congressman and Integrated Bar of the Philippines president Roan Libarios.

The city board of canvassers, chaired by city elections officer Samuel Rollo and composed of city prosecutor Aljay Go and city schools division superintendent Arsenio Cornetes Jr., proclaimed the local winners on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the board announced the completion of the canvassing of the transmitted election returns. The board then read the results and announced the winners of the mayoral and vice mayoral races, and the ranking and new set of city councilors.

The proclaimed winners in the race for city council seats are Glenn Carampatana, Ferdinand Nalcot, Rema Burdeos, Derick Plaza, Cromwell Nortega, Cherry Mae Busa, Vincent Rizal Rosario, Ehrnest John Sanchez, and John Gil Unay Sr.. (pna)
