THE city government of Valencia successfully celebrated the first Buntis Day on July 1, 2016 a kickoff activity of the 42nd nutrition month with the theme “First 1000 Days ni Baby Pahalagahan para sa Malusog na Kinabukasan.”

The National Nutrition Council States that this year’s theme focuses on the first 1000 days of life, thus, the First 1000 Days has been called the “golden window of opportunity.”

Highlights in the event are the Buntis Walk and the Search for Sexy and Healthy Buntis.

The Buntis Walk started in the morning with pregnant mothers with no complications on their pregnancy took a short walk around the vicinity of the City Hall.

The Buntis Walk was realized as walking is one of the best exercises for pregnant women.

The Search for Sexy and Healthy Buntis on the other hand was spearheaded to celebrate the beauty and essence of being a pregnant woman. The search was attended by representatives from the different barangays.

All pregnant mothers underwent a free medical checkup before joining the said activities. This is to ensure their safety and to know the condition of their pregnancy.

Dr. Diana Javier-Tecson a member of the Bukidnon Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologist headed the free medical checkup together with Dr. Bernadette Neri.

Free haircut and massage services as well as free vitamins were also given to all pregnant mothers.

Valencia City Mayor and Chairperson of the City Nutrition Committee Azucena P. Huervas and City Councilors Dr. Policarpo P. Murillo IV and Atty. Oliver Owen L. Garcia graced the whole day event and extended their support to the activities. The three of them discussed the importance of the first 1000 days of life of a child and gave a welcoming message to all pregnant participants.

A lecture on the first 1000 Days of Life was also conducted by Ms. Yvette R. Morales, RND to fully inform the participants about the importance of taking up the right nutrition during and after pregnancy.

Members of the Rotary Club of Metro Valencia headed by President Mai Estore-Selecios also graced the event to turnover a one unit of Fetal Doppler to the City Health Office.

The Valencia City Nutrition Committee believes that such activities will help cater the needs of the pregnant women in the city and promote a happy and healthy pregnancy. (EJ MONTEBON)
