COTABATO City — Barangay councilor was shot dead yesterday at around 11:00 am along Bonifacio Street, this city
Police identified the victim as Masdal Abu, a resident and an incumbent councilor of Barangay Mother Bagua.
Initial investigation revealed that the victim parked in the department store in this city when suddenly somebody called him on his cellphone to go to the area where he was shot.
Upon arriving at the area he was shot by unidentified gunmen using a cal .45 and 9mm pistols. At least 32 empty shells were recovered at the crime scene. Abu died on the spot due to the multiple fatal bullet wounds to different parts of his body.
According to witnesses who declined to give their names, the suspects casually walked away after shooting Abu in broad daylight.
Police theorized the killing could be connected to the killing of another barangay councilor in the same barangay.
Authorities are still investigating the incident further to determine the motive behind the shooting death of Abu.
Asked by this paper about the incident, Barangay chair Ella Biruar replied she could not think of any reason that led to the killing of Abu.
Biruar added she has already scheduled to meet the family of Abu.
