THE mother of the baby girl that was snatched from her mother’s side over the weekend and found Monday night decided to name her child “Erika” in honor of Gingoog’s mayor.

The 33-year-old mother Marichu Villegas acknowledged the efforts of Mayor Erick Cañosa to bring her baby back to her.

“Dako akong kalipay nabalik kanako ako anak tungod sa tabang ug paningkamot ni Mayor Erick, ug tungod niini, akong ingalan sa akong anak ‘Erika’,” said Villegas said.

Erika was born 8:30 pm on Aug. 30 at the Puriculture Birthing Center. She was kidnapped early moning of Sept. 1 while Villegas was asleep.

Shortly after a couple found the baby crying near a pig pen Monday, the baby was brought to the police station.

The suspect, 20-year-old Richard Bernades, was arrested at around 8:30 pm Monday. He was then charged with kidnapping and illegal detentionon Wednesday.

Cañosa said he would award city police director Col. Ariel Philip Pontillas, and reward Regidor and Nancy Precillas, the couple who found the baby, with P15 thousand as promised.
