“Time will come when people will no longer remember us.  But what is important is, during our time we have done our best and the best still is being pushed not only by our children but future generations to come.” – Mayor Oscar Serina Moreno.

THESE impromptu words of Mayor Moreno struck me and etched an indelible mark in my head.  True, whatever we have done during our time will soon be forgotten by those whom we have served, be they relatives and family, the public, or friends.

This may not be absolutely true in all of government service but in functions where politics is involved, the first sentence of what mayor perfectly has spoken clearly depicts how forgetful we may be as a people. Except for a few, the efforts of our past leaders and elective and appointive public officials are good only up to a certain point in time.

People who have sacrificed their lives are being projected as “non-heroes” through the proliferation of what is clearly fake information, the only purpose of which is to perpetuate the deceit that moved many to act the way they do now.

Of course, there are those who continue to push for the best regardless of the environment they are in. They are people who do not really mind about getting credit for the good deeds they do.  They are those who get high by the positive effects of their actions. They are those who believe that this world does not belong to us but to those who will come after.

We have merely borrowed this world from our children and the coming layers of generations after them.  Hence we have the obligation to preserve it so that when the time comes for us to return it to them, they will have been grateful for our efforts to keep this world in its best operational form.

Each one of us can surely contribute to pushing for the best during our time.  Each one of use can significantly become a part the improvement of our communities for the coming generations.  We can simply do our best even as we expect, in just a matter of time, people to forget us and our good deeds.

So, if given the opportunity to contribute to delivering the best service possible, “what is important is, during our time we have done our best.”
