Julliet de Lara-Folton alleged that she was slapped thrice by Gingoog Councilor Jerome Mercado in front of the Gingoog Gallera after her family asserted their right over a portion of the establishment’s parking area.

Folton said they merely placed a straw around the area her family was claiming as their property, and placed the message “No trespassing, this is private property.”

The de Laras have claimed that 176 square meters of the 400-square meter parking area belong to them.

Folton said that angered Mercado, the establishment’s owner, and soon, the official confronted her elder brother Teofilo de Lara Jr..

Folton said she tried to pacify when she saw her brother being pushed by the councilor but the official allegedly slapped her.

She said she went to the Misamis Oriental Provincial Hospital in Gingoog to be checked and to secure a medical certificate but there, she collapsed as her blood pressure shot up. She was subsequently transferred to the Cagayan de Oro Medical Center.
