The police director of Valencia said this even as Mayor Azucena Huervas announced a P1-million reward for anyone who can provide useful information that could lead to the arrest of those responsible for the killing.

The victim was Ariel Cabingas, a 45-year-old administrative officer at the Valencia government’s City Economic and Enterprises Office.

He was shot and killed  while driving his car on Pepito Street in Poblacion, Valencia, at around 8 am on Friday. The victim succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds to the head and other body parts.

Investigators said the gunmen, who concealed their identities with bonnets, rode in tandem on a motorcycle.

Supt. Ritchie Yandug, Valencia police director, said initial investigation results indicate that Cabingas may have been killed because of his work.

Yandug said police have already listed down a number of “persons of interest.”

He said the local police and city hall have been closely coordinating with each other and are using all available resources to ensure that the killers are unmasked and brought to justice.

“Initially duna kitay nakita sa CCTV nga siya gisundan ayha dayun gipusil and then suspects exited to the north-east area. Kamulo pa usab kita og gather more information about the killing,” he said.

The Valencia police has recommended the creation of a special task group to handle the case.

Huervas said the local government “condemns in the strongest possible terms the brazen and senseless attack.”

Cabingas, according to the mayor, worked  “honestly, diligently and effectively.”

“He was at the forefront in the implementation of the reforms and policies of my administration in the various divisions of the City Economic Enterprise Office,” she said.

The victim was also described to be strict when it came to the implementation of city hall’s economic enterprise policies.
