Supt. Michael John Deloso

This was the claim yesterday of Supt. Mardy Hortillosa, spokesman of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office, as he explained why investigation into the Nov. 20 ambush of Supt. Michael John Deloso led to nowhere.

Twenty-three days after the ambush, police are still facing a blank wall in the investigation into the broad daylight gun attack by motorcycleiding gunmen at the corner of Antonio Luna St. and the road leading to the capitol.

Police said no suspect has been identified, no motive established, no case was filed, and they were looking forward to Deloso’s affidavit.

Supt. Hortillosa said police do not even know where Deloso is right now.

Based on Hortillosa’s story, the wounded Deloso left his hospital room undetected by two police officers supposedly guarding from the outside. No one could say where Deloso went.

Deloso suffered at least 14 gunshot wounds, including one caused by a bullet that pierced through his cheek. The impact of the gun attack however was cushioned by the bulletesistant glass installed around his van.

Hortillosa said police are looking for Deloso in the hope that he could give a statement about the attempt on his life.

“Actually, mao na among problema karon kay ang nakakita sa ambush di gihapon nila maila ang suspek kay nag helmet ug naka maskara man,” Hortillosa said.

He said Cocpo and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group are digging deeper into the Deloso case, and are going over pieces of evidence, including possible CCTV recordings.

Deloso is a deputy at the Regional Police Strategy Management Unit of Camp Alagar. He once served as Cocpo’s spokesman and later, a the city police’s traffic chief.
