Deputy Speaker of the House of Representative Arthur C. Yap (Bohol) has called on businessman belonging to the Federation of Filipino – Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. in Northern Mindanao (FFCCCII-NM) to return and venture to food production business.

The call was made by Yap during the FFCCCII-NM 1st Joint Induction Ceremony held late last week.

Yap said he theorized that inflation rate that is happening today in the country is caused by the lack production of food products like rice and other food supply that can be produced locally in the region.

“Some are saying that inflation is caused by the Train Law and other say because of the fuel prices but in my own lack and insufficiency of food has the big reason on inflation rate increase in the country,” he said.

He said he stand as policy maker and former-Secretary of Agriculture that all business sector must take part and return to food production.

Yap who also claimed that   removing tax on fish and meat imports will tame inflation to below 5 percent and would surely reduce the prices of the basic commodities.

“That is one thing that I highlight. Labi na kay Cagayan de Oro and nearby provinces is among the top considered as the food basket in the country today,” he pointed out.

He said the present administration should not think about losses it might incur if it brings tariffs on these products to zero because it will bring relief to consumers.

“Cagayan de Oro is not just an ordinary city but the city of convergence. Cagayan de Oro has the expected population of 700 thousand during the night but during the day, they expect that population reaches to not less than 1.7 Million during the day as warm bodies,” said City Mayor Oscar Moreno.

Governor Imee Marcos of Ilocos del Norte is also among the guest speaker.
