DIGOS City ― One was declared dead on arrival at a local hospital, while another was referred to Davao Regional Hospital following a shooting incident that took place in Barangay Tibal-og, Santo Tomas, Davao del Norte on Saturday night.

Major Jay Nocidal, Santo Tomas police chief identified the fatality as Mark Abadia, 24, a resident of Purok-13-A, Fd Rd #4, Barangay Tibal-og.

Meanwhile, Mark Anthony Alcano, a resident of Purok-6, Barangay Tibal-og was brought to Davao Regional Hospital in Tagum City for immediate treatment of his wounds.

Police investigators were told that Abadia and Alcano were planning to have a drinking session with friends at Abadia’s house and went out together onboard a motorcycle to buy the liquor in Santo Tomas at about 11 pm.

It was learned that the victims were traveling along Fd Rd #2 leading to Fd Rd #3 Planos Road, Calachuchi Street of Barangay Tibal-og; two individuals who were standing along the corners of the road suddenly fired at them multiple times using a still unknown caliber of firearm thereby hitting them in different parts of the body, the police report said.

They were both brought to Santo Tomas Health Center where Dr. Roselyn Val Paraiso declared Abadia dead on arrival. Alcano was rushed to the regional hospital in Tagum City due to severe injuries.

The police have yet to establish the identities of the suspect and the motive behind the shooting incident as they conduct pursuit operations against the attackers of Abadia and Alcano.
