More than 600 cadet officers under the Army's 10th Regional Community Defense Group (10th RCDG) gathered on Friday, May 29, for a flagship Leadership Townhall designed to prepare the next generation for the harsh realities of military command.
The high-level mentorship event brought together seasoned military officers from all levels of command—from platoon leaders to division commanders—to share firsthand battlefield experiences, tactical decision-making, and the heavy weight of administrative responsibility.
Lessons from the Frontlines of Marawi
A major highlight of the town hall focused heavily on crisis leadership, with veteran military and police officials pulling critical, real-world lessons from the historic Marawi Siege.
Veteran speakers hammered home that during prolonged combat operations, leaders must be capable of making decisive, split-second choices under fire while seamlessly coordinating with civilian and alternative security forces. In high-pressure environments like the Marawi Siege, maintaining this inter-agency coordination is critical to ensuring that tactical maneuvers do not compromise broader strategic goals.

At the same time, future commanders were reminded that success on the battlefield is deeply tied to civilian protection and troop morale. Leaders must aggressively safeguard innocent lives in urban war zones while simultaneously finding ways to maintain the mental stamina and fighting spirit of their soldiers during extended, exhausting conflicts.
Through open forums, the young cadets directly grilled senior commanders, gaining raw insights into both frontline combat and long-term organizational leadership.
A continuous journey
Colonel Bernard Ragus, Group Commander of the 10th RCDG, emphasized that the activity aims to spark a fire in the future officer corps, proving that effective leadership requires a balance of tactical brilliance and strong administrative discipline.
The town hall is part of the 10th RCDG’s intensive efforts to instill the core values, skills, and tactical mindset needed by cadets before they officially commission into the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
