BARANGAY Blanco, known for its poor cellphone signal and newly-discovered cold spring, made its mark for basketball supremacy in the booming town of Balingasag, Misamis Oriental.
Bannered by the pair of varsity players Skeirt Veronilla and France Jay Arong, who was adjudged MVP, Team Blanco zeroed in on Poblacion 2 in Game One, 86-59 at Poblacion 2 covered court, and Game Two, 87-60 before its homecourt crowd to sweep the best-of-three final of the Paglaum Cup Balingasag Inter-Barangay 17-under Youth Basketball Tournament concluded on Saturday, September 14 in Barangay Blanco, Balingasag.
The explosive tandem of MVP Arong and Veronilla got able support from Role Castigon Jr, Louie Nacaytuna, and Jhonrey Mofar and coach Mark John Oclarit in sweeping their smaller counterparts from Poblacion 2 fronted by the crowd-darling five-foot-tall point guard Kent Sandoval and the hardworking Sebastien Caday and ‘Tapal King’ Clint Lordie Dugo-an.
“Makalingaw ang gamay nga point guard (Sandoval) sa Poblacion 2. Tag-as makabalo sab ang Barangay Blanco plus naay ilang duha ka varsity players from Corpus Christi. Close fight ang first half, pero ma-inatan sila sila second half,” observed Sabino ‘Yoyi’ Boncales Jr of the Paglaum Sports.
The sports-loving Alvin Edades and Ate Dimple Quilnat of the organizing Balingasag-Mindrecom joined Paglaum Sports caretaker Chrysostom Cailing in presiding over the awarding ceremony with Barangay Blanco, Poblacion 2 and the third-running Barangay Mambayaan getting more than P20,000 in total cash prizes plus trophies and medals.
