CAGAYAN de Oro City — Seventeen Senior High School STEM students from Valencia National High School (VNHS) in Bukidnon won 17 medals in the National Round 2 of the International Science Olympiad Competition of Southeast Asia (ISOCSEA), qualifying for the international finals in South Korea this December.
The students earned 10 gold, five silver and two bronze medals in the online national competition on Sept. 26, competing against science students from across the country.
The competition tested participants in biology, chemistry, physics, earth and environmental sciences, space sciences and scientific writing.
VNHS gold medalists were Gebriel Mark Q. Babon, Zaijan Tim G. Dumaguete, Nove Princess G. Balo, Kelsey Margaret T. Bayotlang, Cyrelle Myr Belarma, Geoffrey Kyle B. Embate, Kenzi Cassielle O. Ponce, Francis Gabrielle Ricablanca, Khyrah Zyrene M. Visitacion and Juhn Eoin S. Besañez.
The silver medalists were Myrtle Amber E. Eduave, Menard G. Palutao, Noeme C. Salvador, Kline Franz H. Bodiongan and Cielo Venice B. Conol.
The school's bronze medalists were Johnryl C. Borbon and Blessed Aira S. Villahermosa.
The qualified delegates will compete in the ISOCSEA International Round scheduled for Dec. 18–22 in Goyang, South Korea, where they will face competitors from other countries.
School Principal Dr. Angelina Acao Cacharo, along with Assistant Principals Dr. Arlyn B. Dawadias and Dr. Rosalia E. Pastrana, congratulated the students, STEM faculty advisers and parents for supporting the team.
Organized by the Global League of Winners, ISOCSEA is a regional academic competition that promotes science education and interaction among primary and secondary students across Southeast Asia.
